Sydney Investor Forum - 19 May
The guest speakers are Emma Kirk (Key Account Manager, Magellan) and Dan Gocher (Director of Climate & Environment at the Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility).
Why Management Matters and AGL Demerger
After varying lengths of ever-lower interest rates, RBA asset-buying and benign inflation – all three are reversing course, resulting in increasingly volatile equity markets in 2022. Emma Kirk from Airlie Funds Management will have a look at how the Australian market has responded and why now more than ever, it is still important to focus on a company’s financial strength, business quality and management quality. Emma will deep dive into a key feature of Airlie’s investment process, which is investing in Owner Managed companies and provide an insight into the Airlie Australian Share Fund (AASF) portfolio.
Dan Gocher is the Director of Climate & Environment at the Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility (ACCR). ACCR researches and engages with ASX-listed companies on a range of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Dan spent fifteen years in investment banking and asset management. Prior to joining ACCR in 2018, he was the asset management campaigner at the environmental NGO Market Forces. Dan holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney.
Prior to Magellan, Emma Kirk worked in wealth management at ANZ Banking, focusing on advice remediation and governance programs. Before that, Emma was a member of the leadership team at Asgard Wealth Solutions and BT Financial Group where she was responsible for licensee growth initiatives and diversifying revenue streams. She commenced her career in financial services in 1995 and has held business development and advice specialist roles at AMP Financial Services. Emma holds a Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) from the Queensland University of Technology, a Diploma of Financial Services from Deakin University and a Green Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
