Lel Smits is an award-winning entrepreneur and director, including being recognised Director of the Year by Women in Finance in 2022 and 2024. For more than 15 years Lel has worked with ASX listed companies, advising more than 500 ASX listed companies and interviewing and working for thousands of listed company executives.
Lel’s career began as a broadcast finance journalist in Australia, after which she worked as a foreign correspondent for the Financial Review’s digital division inside the New York Stock Exchange. Lel has since co-founded The Capital Network, Australia’s premier investor and media relations consultancy and led MarketLit, Australia’s first millennial and Gen Z invent conference.
As a communications professional Lel works to drive economic empowerment and is an advocate and spokesperson for financial literacy. Specialising in digital investor communication Lel has founded and now runs The Stock Network, making the stock market accessible through education. Lel has completed AIRA’s Investor Relations Diploma, AICD’s Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors and AICD’s Company Directors Course.
